Songs in Motion!

Fingerplay songs are great for development of cognitive, language, memory, and fine motor skills. Songs can be used as a way to teach receptive and imitation skills or as reinforcement.

Helpful Tips:
- When you are teaching a new fingerplay song to your child, say the lines slowly and repeat couple times.
- Demonstrate actions clearly and give your child an opportunity to imitate.
- Explain any unfamiliar words and use pictures
- Encourage imagination by expanding a song or coming up with a new hand movements.

Hands Are Clapping (Contributed by Melinda Gibson from SC)

My 3 year old autistic students love this song. I have used Boardmaker to make a visual of this song. It is so simple and great for gross motor imitation.

Hands are clapping.
Clap, clap, clap.
(Repeat the two lines)
Clap your hands my darling.

Toes are tapping.
Tap, tap, tap.
(Repeat.)
Tap your toes my darling.

Arms are swinging.
Swing, swing, swing.
(Repeat)
Swing your arms my darling.

Eyes are blinking.
Blink, blink, blink.
(Repeat)
Blink your eyes my darling.

Heads are nodding.
Nod, nod, nod.
(Repeat)
Nod your head my darling.
